A high relationship was found between egg counts on various food plants and the number of H. armigera male catches with R2 value 0.744 and 0.791. The number of moths captured by using pheromone traps were not related to weather data. |

It was found that 2-4 days old female was most suitable for harvesting high pheromone content. The purification of crude pheromone extract by column and thin layer chromatography revealed 9 fractions, with 6 ones showing positive results according to bioassay test. The study on utilization of crude pheromone extract for controlling this insect pest was also undertaken. The appropriate dispenser was to obtain the best pheromone extract releaser both in laboratory and field conditions. The vial stopper made from rubber showed high attractiveness as dispenser in field test. The same result was observed as in light trap but less than in the synthetic pheromone trap. To acquire higher effectiveness of pheromone trap, further study has to be conducted. |

The response of American bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) to different arrangement patterns of pheromone trap was investigated on 4 rai of tomato field, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom, dry season 1992-1994. Two patterns of pheromone trapping with 6 and 8 traps were set along the periphery and within the experimental field to evaluate the response of the male moths. Data show statistically significant difference between two patterns of pheromone trapping which set along the periphery and within the experimental field. In case of two trap patterns set along periphery, it was found that there was no significant difference among them. |
